dance show photography

Capturing the magic

I understand that getting a dance show to the stage takes an enormous amount of work — from planning and rehearsals to costumes, technical production, publicity and logistics. All leading to the performance, where everything comes together and the magic happens.

My role is to capture the results of that work in a way that reflects the quality of the production — without adding to your workload, creating stress, or getting in the way.

I work with dance schools, production teams and venues across Scotland and throughout the UK, providing reliable, professional coverage that fits around your event.

Why choose a specialist dance show photographer?

why choose me?

Great dance photography comes from more than an understanding of movement. It requires the technical and creative ability to translate that movement into strong, expressive still images.

Dance show photography adds another layer of complexity — from stage lighting and fast-paced performance to restricted access and constantly changing conditions.

My experience as a dance photographer has given me a deep appreciation for timing, form and performance, combined with the technical knowledge, visual judgement, and experience developed through formal training and years of working as a professional photographer.

The result is consistent, high-quality imagery that does justice to the work on stage — capturing not only the dancers’ skill and technique, but the visual experience as a whole.

My approach to dance show photography

What I cover

My focus is on delivering strong, well-judged coverage of your show, tailored to your production.

Depending on your schedule, format and requirements, this may include:

  • dress or technical rehearsals
  • preview performances
  • live stage performances
  • behind-the-scenes moments
  • performer or company images

Everything is approached with the aim of creating a set of images that represents both the performance and the production as a whole.

How bookings work

I offer two approaches to dance show photography, depending on the type of event and how you want the images to be used.

Some productions are best suited to a collective model, where photographs are made available for performers and families to purchase after the show.

Others are better suited to exclusive coverage, where a defined period of photography is booked and images are delivered directly to the organiser for promotional or production use.

Choose the coverage that fits your show

Collective Dance SHOW Coverage

Best suited to dance schools and organisers who want professional photography available without adding to their budget.

There’s no cost to the organiser. I photograph the show, and images are made available to participants and families through a secure online gallery.

Exclusive dance show Coverage

Best suited to professional dance companies, producers, promoters and venues that require dedicated, pre-defined coverage.

This is a fixed-cost booking with a defined coverage period and a curated set of final images, delivered in both social media and print-ready digital formats.

Now for the where, when and how stuff?

some dance show photography Faqs

I hope this is of interest. Ready to take the leap? You may have questions. I’ve tried to answer some here. But please don’t hesitate to get in touch for anything else.

Usually I will come to your chosen location. So that could be your dance studio for a pre show photo call, your rehearsal hall or show venue. I chiefly work throughout Scotland, covering the whole country. Although I am happy to travel throughout the UK and beyond if required.

I am happy to fit in with your schedule. And can arrange shoots morning, afternoon and evening (night time too), 7 days a week. Subject to availability of course.
